Golden chamomile

Golden chamomile

Scientific Name : Matricaria Aurea (Loefl.) Svhultz Bip.

Common Name : Golden Chamomile

Arabic Name : البابونج الذهبي

Plant Family : Compositae / Asteraceae

For Palestinians this is the second most used hot tea-type drink. This specific herb grows in the wilds mainly around the houses here in Palestine during the first few week of spring and has not been commercialized yet. Our attempt is the first and only to grow this wild rare strain in farms and offer it to the rest of the world. This strain cannot be found or sold at any store even here is Palestine because it is labor intensive and very delicate to harvest, dry, and package. So what is so different about this strain? What about the commercial common chamomile being sold all over the world?

For us, the entire world is using the generic wrong type, this might sound irrational. However, if you google the word chamomile, you will get the yellow flower with white petals scientifically knowing as: Anthemis pseudocotula Boiss   . Well this might be a type of “chamomile” commercially grown and sold, but definitely not the one we have here in Palestine. The wild strain as showing in the picture is scinetifcally known as: (Matricaria aurea (Loefl.) Svhultz Bip.Chamomilla aurea (Loefl.) Gay ex Cosson & Kralik). This strain does not produce any flowers or petals, instead it sets a carpel like tiny head which has nothing but the seeds of the strain and that’s where the taste is concentrate, and the unique intense smell of this hot tea cannot be compared to any other.
